SWING

Hurlstone

After the sad loss of John Hayward we had some minor compensation in that we acquired some of his rolling stock and model buildings. He had just had a little track laid on a single 4 foot baseboard which he hoped to use for some of his models.

We made the decision to utilise this board and to expand both the size and the design to build a layout which would be dedicated to his memory.

Although this project could not be started until April, and despite the intervening time demands arising out of organising and running SWING, sufficient progress was made for the layout to be presented at its first exhibition at the Amberley Rail Gala in July 2010.

It was well received although quite intentionally presented as a "work in progress". In fact, some work was carried out at the exhibition which many visitors found very interesting and which led to some interesting discussions. This progress was due in no small measure to a very large amount of effort put in by one of our members, Phillip Pilcher. We also owe a vote of thanks to Dave (whose surname I have completely forgotten) who has not only assisted us at this and previous exhibitions but who also took care of some of the urgent last minute electrical soldering.

An approximate track plan is shown below and pictures will be added in due course.
